I Suspect That Most Muslims Are Closeted Atheists

2025-12-01

This is gonna be very controversial. But this is something that my friend, Junaid and I feel.

When we see Muslims, most of them are not practising. They openly contradict their beliefs and actions. And after talking to some of them, I realised that, scarily enough, they might not be actually believing in God.

Now comes the frustrating part: These people who are not practising, they actively oppose you and argue with you when you want to become practising yourself. They say that your actions are extreme and how will you survive in this world if you don't watch movies, etc. But the funny thing is that these people don't drink alcohol and don't eat pork, even if they are tempted. They might chain smoke, but not drink.

So, my hypothesis is that they are not actually afraid of God, they are afraid of their fellow man.

If they are a drinker, who give marry their daughter? If they are a smoker, no problemo! The inlaws might even smoke with them.

It's all social, not spiritual.

I say, it's obviously free will for each person who do whatever they want. Nothing should be forced. But at least these people should not criticise others who wanna follow an internally consistent belief system.

And, if they truly don't believe, they should openly come out as atheists. That will be better for them and others. I mean no offense. But, this will ensure integrity. Let them have an open and transparent exploration of faith and truth.
